The Southeastern Region is home to an impressive clinical research industry cluster, strong assets for marine biotechnology commercialization, and significant industrial biotechnology opportunities, such as energy/fuel, derived from biomass production and from waste streams of industrial, agricultural, marine, and municipal processes. The Southeastern Office leads economic development efforts to strengthen and grow these biotech subsectors throughout the region.
PRE-VENTURE TRACK: For 2024, the Southeastern Region is piloting a "Pre-Venture Track" which includes university researchers with commercializable technologies with the goal of helping move those technologies closer to commercialization through participating in the challenge. These researchers will benefit from the same mentoring and pitch coaching as the Venture participants. Additionally, the researchers will receive Monetary Awards Totaling $40,000: Top Award, $20,000; Second and Third Awards, $10,000 each.
Total Monetary Awards in Southeastern North Carolina: $80,000
Statewide Challenge: The winner from each of the 5 regional challenges will continue to the statewide challenge for additional mentoring assistance, NC Biotechnology Center Life Science Intelligence team support, promotion, public appearances, and additional monetary awards totaling $100,000 for total statewide awards of $340,000 in non-dilutive funding for 18 North Carolina Life Sciences ventures and technologies.
